During your discovery of St. Lucia, everything will surprise you; however the most exciting place to see in St. Lucia is the city of Castries. It is the island’s capital and the largest city in St. Lucia. Castries’s location makes it the ideal and most magnificent cites in the entire Caribbean. Castries is encircled by hills and its large busy port. Don’t forget to include the beautiful the 19th century Catholic Cathedral located in the Derek Walcott Square on your itinerary.

If you want panoramic and incredible pictures of Castries, then the best place is to take a tour of Morne Fortune. There you will see the historical fortification of Castries and on arrival at the summit; the whole city will be in full view. This is one of the must see site that should be included on your list.

The majestic town of Soufriere is the second and largest port with the most ideal location. A tour of this gorgeous town will give you the golden opportunity to see at firsthand, the breathtaking twin peaks called the Pitons and the World’s only drive-in volcano.
A trip to Cul de Sac will take you to the banana plantation where you can view the three largest banana plantations.

The latest and thriving community in St. Lucia is the town of Gros-Islet which is an amazing location where horse riding can be done. There you have the opportunity to attend a weekly street party and enjoy great moments which may not be available elsewhere. The Pigeon Island is located nearby which houses the Pigeon Island National Landmark Museum, which makes excellent viewing.

St Lucia is an excellent tourist destination and there are lots of things to do and see. There are new things to do every day and I can assure that when you do visit, you are sure to return and not once but over and over.

The Nightlife in St. Lucia

The Caribbean island of St. Lucia has the best nightlife and evening activities and craters for everyone, whether it is a romantic spot to have a late romantic dinner or to spend an incredible night in a European style discotheque.

The most important nightlife activity in St. Lucia is the Gros Islet Festival which is street party that is held every Friday night s and commences about 9:00pm near the Rodney Bay. Local/Caribbean music, dancing, souvenirs, barbecue and local beverages, are all set to keep you up until late into the night.

If you are a lover of New Age Jazz, rhythm and blues, then the St. Lucian Jazz Festival is the place for you which is being held annually. More information on this event can be source form your Travel agent. If you intend to attend that festival, I suggest that you make early hotel reservation so that you would not be disappointed as hotel occupancy is always full around that time of year and because hotel owners will try to benefit from the mass of visitors that attend.

We would recommend that on Friday and Saturday nights you pay a visit to the British style pub called Captain’s Cellar located on the gorgeous Pigeon Island which greets you in an ambience of live music and karaoke.

On the west coast village of Anse-La-Raye is a similar but not entirely the same nightlife activities as that of Fridays night’s in Gros Islet. There you would be entertained with Jamaican Reggae music and lots of rum to keep you up and about all night. You will also find Sea Moss Shake which is made out of seaweed, milk and sugar. It is said that if you have a glass of this drink, it will keep you dancing all night long.

Water Sports in St. Lucia

The unspoiled island of St. Lucia with it marvellous sandy beaches and abundant of landscape is quickly becoming the envy of the Caribbean in terms of tourist attractions.

In the southern part of St. Lucia is a forest reserve where the best hiking trails and historic sites are located, however the island is famous for its beautiful beaches which visitors use to enjoy water sports. Windsurfing is one of the most exciting water sports followed by Kite surfing and there is an abundance of professional Windsurfing and Kite surfing centres on the island.

Scuba diving and snorkelling will surely amaze you if you’re looking for an incredible experience. The best scuba diving sites can be found on St. Lucia’s West coast namely, Marigot Bay, Anse Chastanet and in Castries and Rodney Bay in the North. Actually scuba diving is almost impractical on the east coast as the sea is very rough there and the strong currents coming from the Atlantic Ocean are very dangerous. If you decide to go scuba diving or snorkelling, you should be aware that you are prohibited from destroying or interfering with the corals or to take shell fish from the waters. The most vital information is that scuba diving is not expensive in St. Lucia and there exist numerous trained professionals standing by to assist.

Fans of water sports will be surprise to know about the range of activities that are available in St. Lucia. There is no need to carry with you water sports equipment as they are available on rental and that will save you some cash and our needs will be truly satisfy by all the beautiful beaches that are found on island.

Eating out in St. Lucia

In spite of the fact that St. Lucia is a minute spot on the world map, one would be surprised at the number of good quality food that one can get there. St. Lucia offers superb Europeans restaurants and International cuisine. If you are searching for a setting to have a romantic dinner, you will not be disappointed as there is an abundance of intimate’s preferences. There are many places to go in St. Lucia for that perfect dining experience.

One would be astonished at the real gourmet experience that can be found in any of the island’s top restaurants. Special local dishes such as Callao, pepper pot, or curry, are more often than not available at any restaurant in St. Lucia. In addition to the delicious food, you will in doubt be surrounded by the gorgeous views of the island which will make your dining a truly absolute, terrific and pleasing experience. It is just another one of the exciting things you can do in St. Lucia.

If you decide to stay in the capital Castries which is the largest city in island and one of St. Lucia’s top attractions, I recommend that Caribees with its intimate restaurants and excellent Creole cuisine would be a good place to make reservation for dinner. Others good restaurants in the city are Mel’s Tavern, Bon Appetit or Chez Paul. If you prefer your first meal to be food that you are familiar to, then I suggest Kentucky Fried Chicken, but it would be better to have some creole food since that is one of the reason you came to the island to taste the local cuisine among other things

There is an abundance of good dinning places in North Castries with the famous restaurants offering delicious meals at reasonable prices that suit your pocket. Some of the restaurants are: Friendship Inn, The Orange Grove, Jimmie’s, Restaurant Row, and Wyndham Morgan Bay to name but a few. All of the restaurants accept major credit cards.

If you are in South Castries and you feel hunger, I would recommend Cafe Paradis to you. This restaurant is easy to get to by ferry boat and it offers excellent food, great service, and an incredible view. The Fox Grove Inn located on the East Coast of St. Lucia is one of the most delightful restaurants on the Island and you should certainly try their cuisine.

St. Lucia restaurants provide excellent food, best service and reasonable prices as compared to other popular tourist destinations where the meals at the restaurants are by far very expensive.

Beaches in St. Lucia

The island of St. Lucia is the best place for romance, families and singles. This picturesque island is blessed with an abundance of attractive beaches and lots of night life entertainment. All the beaches in St. Lucia are public and are open to anybody. Not matter if the beaches are within close proximity to a hotel, they are still public, so make full use of the beaches and have a great time

All the beaches in St. Lucia are great for all water sports, snorkelling and diving as well as swimming. Whilst all the beaches are public, access to some of them can only be done by boat and you will not have the use of umbrellas or chairs on every beach. If you are not a registered guest at a hotel, you will have to pay small fees to make use of the umbrellas and chairs. Beware that there are no lifeguards stationed on the beach in St. Lucia, so be on the lookout for places with red flags/signs and avoid swimming there because you will be doing that at your own risks.

During the high tourist seasons or during the summer school vacations, some of the popular beaches in St. Lucia may become very busy with lots of patrons, however do not allow that to spoil your visit as you are sure to find another romantic, intimate beach anytime. Some of the most beautiful sandy beaches in St. Lucia are located on the South coast of the island such as Anse Cochon, Anse Chastanet, Soufriere, Anse de Sables, Jalousie, Anse Des Pitons, and many others, however most of them can only be access by boat.

What other place to go if you are searching for fantastic beaches and an opportunity to have incredible pictures of the flora and fauna. There is no doubt, that best beaches would be those located on the Eastern Coast of St. Lucia, the only disadvantages is that they are not suitable for swimming but you will definitely find natural beauty in all its splendour and an opening to spend some time relaxing and meditating.

Whilst the Northwest Coast of the St. Lucia provide access to some of the popular beaches, however they may become very busy now and then as there are always activities taking place there. Beaches such as Pigeon Island, Rodney Bay, Vigie, or Marigot Bay, will surely make a big impression on you. Generally, there are lots of beaches in St. Lucia and you will sure to have an splendid holiday.

<![CDATA[Dinning in St. Lucia]]>Mon, 05 Jul 2010 10:11:16 -0800http://stluciaattractions.com/1/post/2010/07/dinning-in-st-lucia.htmlPicture
It is a fact that the majority of Chefs in St. Lucia depends entirely on local (Creole) cuisine spices and garnishes, the island’s fish fries, hotel restaurants and natural beach bars guarantee that the menu is mixed, international and convincing.

The island of St. Lucia has on several occasions hosted a number of all-inclusive hotels where guests enjoyed international cuisine; however, visitors who spend time outside of the hotel setting will be satisfied by the many vendors and shops which add local flavor to the scenery. Visit a fish fry in Gros Islet, Anse La Raye, or Dennery and try barbecue, tatiri (a small fish, deep-fried and eaten whole), and chargrilled tuna steak. Whether you're looking for excitement and dancing (Gros Islet) or something a little quieter (Anse La Raye, Dennery), fish fries are a cheap way to experience local cuisine and culture. The price at Anse la Raye will be about $5 (USD) per person and includes a drink.

If you are looking for something special, then give one of the island’s plantation-style restaurants a visit. As for fast food it is always available, the price is cheap and includes burgers, barbeque and pizza and can be found on most of the Caribbean island.

For visitors who have been on expedition (hiking or snorkeling) all day and may want to unwind can do so in one of the restaurants which serve a variety of foods, from Asian, Indian, and Mexican to the local Creole and Amerindian, to American Nouveau and where the prices are reasonable. A meal at one of these restaurants will cost between $12 (USD) and $20 (USD) before drinks and tip. These restaurants are located mostly in the tourist areas and also offer outdoor seating with views of beach or mountain sunsets to make your stay even more fascinating and memorable.

Visitors who are looking for a more sophisticated dinning should visit the picturesque town of Soufriere, Rodney By and East of the City of Castries. Most of the hotel restaurants provide higher-end cuisine and anticipate the price to be just the same, ranging from $20 (USD) and on occasion above $30 (USD).

In St. Lucia, visitors can also do their own cooking with their budget. It all depends whether the evening dinner brings in recreation or enthusiasm, many of the natives look at dinner as the best time to socialize or what we term in our local vernacular/dialect as "liming," or hanging out

<![CDATA[St. Lucia shore excursions and island tours.]]>Sun, 04 Jul 2010 10:26:39 -0800http://stluciaattractions.com/1/post/2010/07/st-lucia-shore-excursions-and-island-tours.htmlPicture
St Lucia land and sea excursions will give you a better outlook or appreciation of St. Lucia. After you leave your cruise ship, you will be met by The Real St. Lucia Tours staff who will accompany you to your tours through the hills and valleys to the picturesque island in the Caribbean chain as you traverse the beautiful scenes.

This day will be one of the most memorable days for you as you will reminisce in years to come. From my personal experience, it is not unusual but rather the norm to see men riding bicycles carrying large bottles of water, propane etc, as they make their way up and down hill reminding me of the Amalfi coastline situated in Italy.

En route to your tour are numerous spots where you can have the opportunity to have some dazzling photographs to capture all the beautiful scenery which your driver will gladly stop for on your request of course.

You will also have the opportunity to see one of the island’s protective species of snake which will be on display by the roadside and not forgetting all the beautiful bays and scenic fishing villages with all it rural features.

On approaching the scenic town of Soufriere which is the largest settlement on the west coast, you will discover the island’s World heritage site; the twin peaks called the Pitons. There is no doubt that you deserve to explore the town to experience all its features such as the World’s only drive-in volcano viz: Sulphur Springs, the Diamond water fall and Botanical Gardens with its lovely waterfalls and its eighteen-century mineral baths.

You will be doing yourself a disservice to leave your country to travel all the way to St. Lucia and leave the island without seeing the above mentioned site.

At your discretion, your guide will also make stop(s) along the way to permit you to have a snack from the local restaurant(s) or street vendor(s), however we will advice that in order to make the best use of your tour that you need to do less stop eating. Your tour will finish at it southernmost point close to one of the Pitons where you will be lead to the heliport to board the helicopter for your return trip to the city (Castries).

In addition to the tours, you can blend your day with other St. Lucia activities. You will take a boat ride to the beach and will be welcome by our friendly employee who will get you acquainted with your surroundings. Facilities such as changing rooms, showers, lockers and rest restrooms are all available for your use. Also available are all the snorkel gears which await you to explore the Marine Reserve by yourself.

You can also make use of the lounge chair found on the beach if you just want to look at the tropical water, take a walk to the self guided nature trail or enjoy your snorkel, with advice from our professional divers if you need it, to the prime reef of St. Lucia.

By midday you will begin to smell the preparation of all our local delicacies (food) which will be in the form of a BBQ buffet with one soft drink. Thereafter you will have the opportunity to take part in a guided tour of the 18th century estate with its ruins and rich history and flora. The tours start from the restaurant and will last for about an hour or if you decide not to join, you have the preference of remaining on to beach to have a swim.
